Surely that can’t be right!!!

Forcing Tobacco companies to sell cigarettes in grey or brown plain packaging as a smoking deterrent and to discourage youngsters from taking up the habit, is going too far but it’s all in vain. I don’t care what studies say, youngsters don’t buy a cigarette pack based on how it looks or what colour the pack is, they buy the cheapest brand regardless of its packaging and they usually buy it form the shopkeeper who is happy to break a pack and sell them singles.

We allow every group their independency form the state, give them the tools and set them free to decide for themselves – why don’t we do the same with smokers young and old – educate them about the harms of smoking, its costs both in health and monies, and make as much money as humanly possible from cigarette sales to offset its financial burdens on the people and the state.

In the mid 80s I remember seeing those grey and brown plan packs in a shop where people queued for hours once a week to buy a banana per person and half a pineapple or half a watermelon per household, I was visiting my cousin in East Berlin, everything there was brown and grey!
